You May Need These AC Repairs If you Skip a Check Up

woman-looking-shocked-at-bill

We often talk about the link between AC maintenance and AC repairs and how getting the former is great for avoiding the latter. But what exactly can go wrong when you skip those essential AC check-ups?

From a clogged condensate line that results in a backup of water and condensation into your home, to damage to your expensive compressor, let’s go over some specific examples of air conditioner repairs in Smithsburg you may need if you forego regular air conditioning maintenance.

Unusual Sounds

Just like a car that doesn’t receive regular tune-ups, your AC system will start making some strange and loud sounds when it doesn’t receive a regular check-up. Your AC system is comprised of many moving metal parts. When lubrication between these parts wears down, the result is screeching, grinding, and metal-on-metal noises.

You may eventually also hear whining and squealing sounds when a fan belt becomes loose and slips out of its position. Lubricating moving parts and checking your AC system’s belts are part of a maintenance check-up from our NATE-certified Super Techs. You can count on your AC’s peaceful operation when you schedule this vital service and avoid the need for an unexpected AC repair.

Condenser Failure

The condenser is without a doubt the most vital and expensive component of your AC system. During a check-up, the condenser is thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and tested for any malfunctions.

When these checks fail to happen, the condenser will begin to wear down and could eventually fail. As dirt, dust, and debris accumulate on the condenser coils and fins, all this gunk inhibits the heat transfer process. The condenser will have to work harder than it should need to, resulting in enormous wear and tear.

Corrosion and weather damage will continue to take their toll, affecting the electrical components such as the capacitors, relays, and contactors. Because the condenser is so expensive to replace, it’s often recommended that the entire AC system be replaced.

You’ll Need a New AC System Sooner

Although this isn’t technically a repair, it’s even worse than the costliest repair estimate. The 10–15 year lifespan of an air conditioner, heat pump, or ductless mini split only applies to systems that receive regular check-ups. If you completely neglect maintenance, you’re looking at a lifespan of possibly 6–8 years. Having to replace a broken-down AC system twice as often is an expense that no homeowner can afford to make.

Because we believe HVAC check-ups are so important, we offer homeowners membership in our Maintenance Club. To accommodate all budgets, we have four levels of membership with the lowest tier costing a mere $8 a month. For the price of a fancy drink at a coffee shop, you can rest assured knowing that essential HVAC check-ups are taken care of. Not only that, but you’ll see us less often as you’ll need to schedule repairs less frequently.
